Class I, III Landfill Operator Is a solid waste facility that accepts Class I waste that is not hazardous waste and can be disposed in a lined landfill. The landfill may also accept yard trash, construction and demolition debris, processed tires, asbestos, carpet, cardboard, paper, glass, plastic, furniture other than appliances, or other materials approved by the FDEP that are not expected to produce leachate which poses a threat to public health or the environment. Operators required 24 hours initial course and pass exam with 70% proficiency, then 16 hours of continuing education every 3-year period.
Construction and Demolition Debris Landfill Operator Facility accepts discarded materials of only C&D wastes from C&D sources or land clearing debris which may includes materials from constructions, demolition or renovation of a building or structure. These materials generally are considered not to be water soluble and non-hazardous in nature. Land clearing debris can be rocks, soils, tree remains, trees, and other vegetative matter, which normally results from land clearing or land development operations for a construction project. Operators required 24 hours initial course and pass exam with 70% proficiency, then 16 hours of continuing education every 3-year period.
Material Recovery Facility Operator Is a solid waste management facility that provides for the extraction from solid waste of recyclable materials, materials suitable for use as a fuel or soil amendment, or any combination of such materials. These materials may be of metal, paper, glass, plastic, textile or rubber material. The MRF is a solely engaged in storage, processing, resale or reused of recovered materials. Operators required 16 hours initial course and pass exam with 70% proficiency, then 8 hours of continuing education every 3-year period.
Spotter / Waste Screener Is a person employed at a solid waste management facility whose job it is to inspect incoming waste and to identify and properly manage any hazardous or prohibited materials, which are received at the facility. Spotter required 8 hours initial course, then 4 hours of continuing education every 3-year period.
Transfer Station Operator Is a facility with the primary purpose of which is to store or hold solid waste for transport to a processing or disposal facility. Operators required 16 hours initial course and pass exam with 70% proficiency, then 8 hours of continuing education every 3-year period.
