COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is approve as initial training for Class I, III and C&D solid waste operators. It includes a final exam with a 70% proficiency. Topics includes: Solid Waste Management Basics and Regulations, Environmental Concerns with Waste Handling Facilities, Screening for Prohibited Materials, Managing Special Wastes, Health and Safety, Compliance Inspections, Siting, Heavy Equipment, Landfill Construction, Basic Operations, Leachate Management, Gas Management, Groundwater Monitoring, and Landfills Closure.
Daily morning and afternoon breaks are scheduled. On your own for lunch.

Course Objective
At the completion of the training the student should be able to discuss the basics of solid waste & landfill operations; environmental concerns with waste handling facilities; screening for prohibited materials; managing special waste; the fundamentals of landfill construction; leachate and gas management; groundwater monitoring issues; and monitoring of landfill cell closures. The students will also complete a final exam.
Participants must be present for entire course to receive continuing education credit and a Certificate of Completion. All participants take the final exam. Note - If participant is needing continuing education credits [CEUs] to maintain their active landfill operator training, then they should probably take the refresher training (no exam). If you are also needing to be a trained TS/MRF operator, then you probably should take Landfill Operations and WPF course.
