COURSE DESCRIPTION

This self-paced HazWoper education course on the Internet provides the necessary environmental health and safety training required for a Certificate of Completion that will permit the student to continue working at any site requiring HAZWOPER training. This course provides the equivalent of eight hours of refresher training.

The HazWoper 8-Hour Refresher is a WebCT-based, self-paced, open-entry, open-exit, 8-hour waste site worker course meeting the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120, OSHA's Hazardous Waste Site Worker and Emergency Response Standard. The course consists of online text, exercises, self-grading quizzes and final exam (MUST be proctored; is NOT open book). The course is offered through selected member colleges of the Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training (CCCHST) and is authored and sponsored by the Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI).

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is for professionals who have completed the Health and Safety Training for Hazardous Materials Activities: Forty-Hour OSHA course. OSHA requires that this eight-hour refresher course be taken yearly to maintain certification.
 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Requirements for Online Courses:

  • You should be computer literate and familiar with PC-based systems to participate in the online courses.
  • Prepayment is required before you will receive log-in information, including address and password.
  • You must provide an email address at time of registration/payment.
  • Courses must be completed within six months from date of registration. Certificate will be issued on the date you pass the final exam.

System Requirements:

  • Pentium computer or comparable
  • Speakers and soundcard
  • Internet Connection – 28.8 minimum
  • Web browser – Netscape Navigator 4.0 or newer or Internet Explorer 4.0 or newer
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or higher (Download free from WebCT site.)

Students have six months to complete the course from the date of their registration.

Accessing the course:

  • Student will receive course access email once the registration has been processed by our office during normal business hours.
  • If you are taking a refresher course, we will first verify your eligibility. Your registration might be placed on hold until this is completed. If you are not eligible to take a refresher based on our records, we will contact you.
  • To expedite this process, please send in your most recent valid training certificate to registration@treeo.ufl.edu

Once the registration has been processed by our office, you can expect the following:

 

  • You'll receive an email with your username and password for this training.
  • Follow the link to get started.
  • You will need to type in your username and password as it is shown in your welcome email.
  • Make sure you save this email to access the course each time.
  • Keep in mind that you must pass each assignment with a score of 70% or greater, and then you'll be provided access to the final exam.
