This course is approved through July 2026.

This course provides basics of the hazardous waste regulations that apply to solid waste operations, and is beneficial training for any personnel who collect or transport solid waste, work at landfills, construction and demolition sites, solid waste transfer stations, household hazardous waste facilities, and materials recovery facilities.

The goal of this course is to provide a general understanding of how the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) applies to operations that take place at solid waste management facilities.

After completing the course, you will be able to describe common RCRA terms, recognize possible compliance issues involving waste management, and find resources for maintaining compliance with the hazardous waste regulations. You will also learn about identifying and characterizing hazardous waste, preparing for an inspection, managing universal waste and used oil, keeping records, reporting spills, and contingency planning for emergencies that involve hazardous waste.

None.

This course is intended to take no more than 8 hours to finish, with a 30 day completion deadline.

It consists of five content modules, with required readings, links to resources, some videos, and practice quizzes.

After completing all of the modules, you will receive a certificate of completion of the course.

There are end-of module quizzes that are 5 questions each. You may take the quizzes as many times as needed, but must score at least 70% to advance to the next module.

Please note that you will not be able to obtain your certificate until you have passed the course with an overall grade of 70% or above.
